Strike up the Band, we are Marching into the Sea.

Super Tuesday came and went. Uniformed cheerleaders dressed in their candidates colors did splits and cartwheels and flashed their underwear in passionate surrender to the ringing cadence of catchphrases and steely eyes misting. They stared into the glorious future whose veils were parted before the force and wisdom of these great souls chosen to stand in the face of uncertainty and trial and lead their respective flocks into the Promised Land.

Amidst the clamor of war and economic ruin, Amidst the squalor of appetite and entertainment; within the kaleidoscope of torture and genocide bought with their dollars and committed by way of their indifference, the American people went to the polls and voted for the candidate whose lies sounded the most like what they could live with along the course of ‘business as usual’.

They don’t know where they’re going. They just want to take care of their families and go to the movies in their heads. They want to eat that turkey dinner and have drinks around the barbecue, send their kids to college and retire to a condominium somewhere south of the death of their capacity to dream of a saner world; much less contribute to it. Their better world begins with them and ends no further than the next block. It includes their relatives and friends and it ends with them being eulogized for all their sacrifice and humanity at a well attended funeral; sail on America. Let your vast stomach rest on the shopping cart as you surf through the aisles of shiny colored shit. It just gets better.

People get the leaders they deserve. They lead the lives their vision can include. They are the strength and sinew of their time. They are the musical notes that dance on the lead sheets of the composition. What’s that you ask? “How come my head is filled with all these cartoon characters?” Tom and Jerry, The Coyote and the Roadrunner... beep... beep and holy shit!

Let’s look at the candidates. There’s Hillary Clinton who supported the war even though she knew it was bogus. You’ve got to look strong and that means showing your ass to the powers that be so they can jackhammer it into the White House. Looking strong isn’t being strong but the latter kills your candidacy. She has no hard words for the present occupant. She serves the same master. The Kyl-Lieberman bill tells us all we need to know of Hillary. Her pounding the drum about Iran tells us all we need to know of duplicity, hypocrisy and empire.

Obama took his Kennedyesque persona and said in no uncertain terms that Israel tells him what to do more than Hillary. Hillary objects and says that she can do more things with a donkey and ping pong balls in the Knesset than Obama can and she’s got an extra hole to offer. Dress them both in white thigh high boots and a red micro mini and offer a two for one sale.

Anyone who doesn’t think that Israel is running America hasn’t been listening to the candidates because everything they say dovetails with the interests of this world government seat designed for the purpose it serves today. Like the houses of Congress. Like the present administration they’re all listening to Radio Sharon, broadcasting 24/7 by satellite and beamed across the world from his coma suite. Tell the truth like Cynthia McKinney or Ron Paul and watch what happens.

John McCain does his old war horse routine and talks about how much ass he’s going to kick and gets called a moderate. Mitt Romney slides like a greased pig in a rubber suit out of the chute of America’s first Scientology experiment. How well I recall Bush flying into Salt Lake City to ask the church Starship Elders to put a cork in Professor Steven Jones. Mitt’s going to do what George did. Hallelujah for that. Elmer Huckabee is going help with the rapture. Jesus is by his side.

If both sides of the equation answer to the same genocidal maniacs, I have to ask the big question; what’s going to change? If America has been transformed into the Land of the Stupids, who send their kids to fight wars engineered by a foreign nation then what does that make America? If members of AIPAC can practice espionage on the American government, get caught-handed and have the act slowly disappear behind the scenes what does that say about the American judicial system? Enter Mukasey.

How did it get to where blatant murder and treason could become the order of the day? What strange power allows Mukasey to tell Congress to kiss his ass? Who has sewn tight the lips of the Congress and spayed and neutered the lot of them? Oh ye great icons of government, ye tireless servants of the downtrodden, ye courageous street fighters for the greater good... you do us proud.

The game ain’t over till it’s over. Unseen across the world there is a mighty army being born. Evil cannot prosper forever and “V” lives in many a heart and is being reborn again by the thousands with every nasty little step that evil takes. It is a fool who imagines that their seat of power is an enduring one. It is a fool who thinks that nothing will ever change and that the banquet will go on forever.

What sort of people are they who would kneel before the promise of things that never come and exchange their freedom for the privilege? What sort of a people will let faceless goons dismantle the house in which they live and sit on the couch in front of the TV until they come for the couch?

Fear is one thing when it is still only in your minds. Fear is another thing entirely when it is in your face. When the day comes that you have to choose between your comfort and your safety we shall see what you are like on that day.

My sympathies to all of you who played the whore, who played the violin while your nation burned. You have my sympathies; all the important names, all the gladhanders, all the fat freaks in muumuu’s trotting down the aisle of “Let’s make a Deal.”, all the cotton candy eating, star-struck contestants dancing in the light of your children’s reflecting navel rings... you have my sympathy. I know how it ends.

There is something in the human heart that cannot be extinguished. I do not care how many decades pass. I do not care what trials may be endured. There is an unquenchable flame in the human heart and it will rise to the occasion. That day will come.

For now, we must endure the parade of whores and cowards who mouth the saccharine platitudes that we have heard every time the bunting gets hung, every time the band tunes up, every time the same old show begins. For now we have to endure the hypocrisy and lies that will find no action when the power changes hands. There was never any power in these hands. When you cannot master yourselves then someone else will master you.

Give yourselves a hand. It takes a rare breed to stand before the world and spin a fairy tale that won’t come true. It takes a rare soul to have the stones to mask their contempt before those they intend to enslave and destroy. The unfortunate truth is that in these days they are not so rare at all. People are waiting in line to sell themselves to the highest bidder, a bidder who stole what they had to begin with in order to possess the coin to buy them all.

Even though you are the best I have seen in what you do I have to say that you hit this one out of the park. There are enough one liners in here to last anyone else a lifetime of writing. This is a hall of fame work and along with what you just did at Origami shows you are improving all the time. That's really scary.

Hi,

Great article.
Thanks.....you hit the nail on the head (again) and are encouraging (sort of) with it.

I just discovered this blog a few days ago, and I have to second Bradley. Reading you is like watching a master samurai executing his katas on a misty riverbank in the hazy light of dawn.

The war we're fighting is an old one, as old as civilization and maybe older. The demons we fight have been preying on us since we first forsook the forest for the city; humankind has spent most of the past several millennia under the spell of Homo sapiens demonicus, but the end of that era is in sight. The crazy old monk who wrote Revelations perceived the final struggle, however dimly. The Mayans saw it too, and fixed a date to the time of victory, the end of one age and the beginning of the other.

The psychopath is the natural predator of humanity, and the last ten thousand years has been the era of their flourishing. The culture is evolving its defenses, though; that the darkness they bring will be forced back is as inevitable as the swing of a pendulum.

Les, I've been reading you for a couple years now, and I am still knocked-out by your passionate dialogue. In a way it's a bit like Kerouac.
Music runs through my mind 24/7, perhaps that will be the secret weapon that brings down the darkness that is covering this planet. Lets continue to sing our songs from our hearts, from our souls. Peace, Love, Dan from Olympia

This essay is as funny as it is depressing. I don't know Les...maybe I'm still too young to have developed this level of cynicism. Some of those first few paragraphs make it sound hopeless and pointless and contain the kind of sweeping generalizations that could be applied to every society on the planet with equal accuracy. Being primarily concerned with making a living, supporting a family, and struggling to see the world beyond one's own front door are hardly traits that are specific to Americans. Although I will admit we may be a little disproportionate on that last one.

If the history books are even remotely accurate then war, exploitation, all manner of injustice and the vast inequities between "TPTB" and "WTP" are nothing new. They are as intrinsic to humanity as is our capacity for redemption and enlightenment. Not that I'm advocating us bending over and taking it like good little boys and girls; on the contrary it is our duty to cry out against it and take whatever action possible. But I'm not sure how productive it is to operate from the assumption that 80-90% of one's fellow human beings are bloated,self-serving, helpless imbeciles with scarcely the capacity to scratch their own ass or shovel cheeseburgers into their own mouth.

What's the answer? I don't know. Wherever there is power and money there is corruption. That seems to be pretty self-evident. And where there is government there is power and money. Total anarchy wouldn't work either so what does that leave us? Admittedly this may be a character flaw but the way I see it the only thing I can fully take responsibility for is my own inner space and whatever impact I have on those I come into contact with in my daily life. In the grander scheme of things my capacity to evoke change is limited to the confines of that particular game. If my only two choices are Obama and McCain then all I can do is choose the best of those two options based on the information I have.

Anyway...you know I agree with you on all the important stuff. As usual the writing here is borderline supernatural.

Hey Ben;

Maybe a little clarification is good. This, as with all my commentary is of the "if the shoe fits wear it" perspective. I give no percentages. There are a lot of smart and wonderful people loose in the world.

However... it is the larger mass (speaking in every sense) that allows for the predatory psychopaths to continue in their efforts. The fact is that an alarming amount of people are just out for themselves or too stupid to think and chew gum at the same time. The icons and entertainments of the culture give us all the evidence necessary to make this determination.

But really... this is just about my way of saying, "Wake up!!!" and I'm going to keep on saying it in everyway that I know until they do. I'll say it gently and I will shout it in their ear.

It may be that this is not my job and it may be that it is. I believe that I'll be told what I should be doing if I'm not doing it and that we are the hands of the divine who does all that he/she/it does through human agency.

It's past arguing that I'm only a work in progress. So I do what seems to be my dharma here in the midst. When the time comes to do or say something else or to do or say things differently than I have been I am convinced I will be notified at that time.

Always a pleasure.

Perhaps the only thing you did not touch upon was the struggle between the comfortably numb--those who actually think the election process is something akin to rooting for your local football team---and the perpetually hopeless--those of us who see the bigger picture and know that there is no turning back, that there is no white knight on the horizon, that the cavalry is not coming over the hill, that once the train has run off of the tracks, there is no putting it back.

Ron Paul--if he is what he appears to be--would have been a breath of fresh air for the country. But we are dreaming. Me and my brethren of the perpetually hopeless know that where a nation can rig elections, can control media and can slaughter its own for personal advantage, there is no hope.

One thing, Les....as a staunch Catholic, it pains me to say that I would doubt Huckabee or an other American leader would have Jesus by his side. I cannot imagine the Almighty being please by what has transpired here.

It's too bad they don't give out awards for good writing but just give them out for blow jobbing the industry heads. If they did you would have more than a few. That is a fine example of what happens when someone doesn't interuptthe flow of their own truth.

Beware what you wish for because you just might get it. It's an old saying but also a wise one. What we're up against is the really really really spoiled brats of really really spoiled brats of really spoiled brats of spoiled brats. They are petulant twisted child-men who think that they are completely entitled to have it their own way and, unfortunately, their forefathers have built the machine to supply their wishes. They have subjugated a billion souls to supply their needs and wants, even as those needs and wants multiplied exponentially into expecting a world of fantasy and illusion to be made real. When Dub the shrub declared that he was "The Decider" he wasn't just talking about something as passe as "the buck-stops-here" man who's making executive decisions. No, dear friends, he was talking as if he were the very Angel of Death himself. He was letting us mere subhumans in on the fact that he is magnificently large and in charge, a god-like figure who needs to be feared and respected. Megalomania is the clinical term for it. (In Bush's case I think that his propensity for dealing death in a cavalier manner actually qualifies him for serial killer status). Bush is not the only example of this perverted species, however. The extremely spoiled brats are to be found on the executive boards of the world's largest and most powerful companies and in the halls of Congress. They are the benefactors of all the old money fortunes and they wield the power of royalty in corporate circles. Their sensibilities are warped beyond belief. Their judgement, if they ever had any, is totally bent and crooked. They are the enemies of humanity simply because they think that we don't count. That's what you get when you let the mexican maid raise your kid while you're golfing in Palm Springs.

Somehow you always put into words what I'm feeling. Since the depressing returns last night -- manifesting themselves into physical tornadoes that devastated all over Huckabee-land (obviously his Jewhovah god is not pleased!) I had a mentally chaotic Ash Wednesday and had to take an ativan to erase my mind. Now I wake up, come here and you have crystallized my chaotic thoughts into words.... I can't do it myself, so thank you for speaking for me.

Hi Les

Fantastic post. Depressing, but not hopeless. I keep coming back to how!, Just how are they doing all this? Shutting down all our safeguards, worldwide, a mass-hypnosis amongst the ‘masses’. And the glib answers I get from some, (no, not yourself les), do not satisfy!

A short story, if I may. I have recently had to work back in the office, with the young women who works for us in our small typesetting business. Listening to national radio 2 (safe, pop-songs, pseudo political comment). And although my wife tells me to bite my tongue, I just can’t help myself starting to rant, outraged at what I hear. The story on the radio was how an elected MP was bugged during a consultation with one of his constituents, and the real story was how when elected MPs in Parliament found out, the intelligence ‘services’ basically told them to go fcuk themselves, rubbing their noses in it by saying ‘if you’ve nothing to hide, you’ve nothing to fear’. But when I turned to the young women and asked ‘did you know there are, at least, 1000 new phone intercepts a day!, with no oversight at all, with oversight actually against the law’ she went completely blank. No, I mean COMPLETELY blank. For at least ten seconds. Then she said ‘did you see Top Gear last night? Weren’t it funny? We laughed and laughed …’. So I left it. And I feel very depressed. How can she – and it seems nearly everyone else – not see such a danger, such an important thing, right in front of her! Only eight years ago we were watching movies about how only the evil soviets, (defunked by then, but no matter), only the baddies did this sort of thing! We were the Free West!

But let’s not beat up on the ‘masses’, tempting and satisfying though it is to do so. She may be naïve and gullible, she may be ‘stupid’ (whatever that word actually means), she’s certainly not a bad person. Can she be held responsible for what’s happening?

It seems to me that responsibility is not something that is mine or yours or theirs. It is mine and yours and theirs. People make decisions and take actions at least partly depending on what they know. If what they know is false then responsibility does not rest entirely on those people.

If what the people know, that is false, has been deliberately supplied to them by others, who knew it was false when they supplied it – who deliberately, supplied the false information in order to gain an advantage - then any reasonable person, or process, can only conclude that primary responsibility lies with the deliberate supply of false information.

Somehow those responsible must be identified, located and isolated. And them ‘masses’ have got to be woken up for the sake of all life on our mother, Earth.

You write a very good wake-up call.

All the best
Simon

Hey Tony,

You remind of a story by Roald Dahl (I think it was) about a too clever fellow who came up with a beyond perfect greyhound substitution scam. After the big race that his secret dog has just won, he heads back to the bookies and to a man they all laugh at him and treat his tickets as if they were from a laundry. All of his cleverness, his ins and outs, everything, came to nought because the people en-masse refused to play the game. Cool, huh?

'Like the present administration they’re all listening to Radio Sharon, broadcasting 24/7 by satellite and beamed across the world from his coma suite.'

Posthumously broadcasting, you might have said, Les. The guy, i would say, has been dead since a few weeks after his massive 2nd stroke in early Jan 06, when it occurred to the Israeli smarties that the announcement be postponed as there was concern over political instability as people would be jockeying for his and other top positions there in the leadership.

Of course, mortuary practice for indefinite preservation is to store their 'customers' at minus4.0C, and he is in their basement in v/good condition.

The problem is that they haven't thought through when would be the most appropriate time to make the announcement of his passing, only that Jan/Feb 06 wasn't.

The quintessentially Israeli stunt of mass murdering for fun Lebanese civilians 6 months later was the right moment to announce his passing, political stability had by that time firmed, as it was a fitting posthumous commemoration of what Ariel Sharon himself would have done in that fine Israeli tradition of serial mass murder of helpless peoples so frequently practiced by his very self in the past - also for fun.

So, now that they have blown that chance, when are they going to announce his passing ?

Methinks it is before USrael multiple nukes Iran because that way foreign heads of state can come to Israel and pay their respects, otherwise the chaos of blowback can also engulf Israel, and safety for foreign dignitaries cannot then be guaranteed by anyone.

If this seems a bit of a stretch to some, consider how believeable it will be when Jan 09 rolls around and he, it will be said, is still in a coma.

So now you all will know what the announcement of his passing will mean for Iran.

Everyone must 'get back to basics'.
This will cripple the corporations and give us our life back.
One of the biggest wastes of money is insurance.
Another is over priced life styles.
Excessive ownership. etc. etc.
Nothing will happen though until it is forcibly taken.
Many people who comment here are right; the system is self destructive and it will sort its self out in time.
Walking away is stressful but an easy out of many (fabricated) problems but is seen as 'morally' wrong.
As I tell myself as I live in these current times 'Morals are dependent on the society we live in'.

They haven't disarmed us yet, so we have the means to rectify the situation. And history is on our side - no standing army has ever been able to persevere against guerrilla forces. Despite all their firepower and high tech equipment, the US Army got whipped by a bunch of Vietnamese peasants and is in the process of getting whipped by a handful of Iraqi partisans.

It isn't so much that "the people get the leaders they deserve", it's that they always blame the ones that pointed it out to them before they voted for the assholes when things don't change.

I'm not holding my breath in hopes of an IQ upswing in the American populace, btw.
